Are you a working parent with an elementary age child, wondering how to provide exciting and fun experiences for your child this summer?
Since 1985, SUMCD, Inc. has been providing a School-Age Summer Camp program for elementary age children from early June and continuing through late August. Summer Camp is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Union and Snyder Counties and from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Mifflin County for children who have completed kindergarten through 6th grade.
Michelle Russell, SUMCD school-age coordinator, describes the Summer Camp program as both educational and recreational. “Camp engages children in hands-on activities and is an opportunity for children to make new friends and discover new interests. Field trips two to three times each week might include bowling, movies, baseball games, museums, and parks. Children and staff are transported in school buses with appropriately licensed drivers. We also swim weekly at community pools.”
The SUMCD Summer Camp program is licensed by the state Department of Public Welfare. Licensing ensures that services are provided by qualified and credentialed staff with current certifications in first aid and criminal/abuse record clearances. Camp staff participate in professional development and ongoing training and education. All Summer Camp sites participate in the Pennsylvania STARS program, with ratings ranging from 1 STAR to 4 STARS.
